The Ben Uri Minutes for 1933-36 show that at a meeting on 4 October 1934 'it was suggested to have a Lukomski exhibition of synagogue drawing [sic]' and it is likely that this work entered the collection in the same year. The drawing depicts the interior of the synagogue in Łańcut, Poland, a settlement on the East–West route on the Polish–Ruthenian borderlands. Originally wooden, but rebuilt after fires, Łańcut synagogue is celebrated as a rare surviving example of the vaulted synagogues with a bimah-tower, that were built throughout the Polish lands from the sixteenth through the early nineteenth centuries. This work does not appear to have been included in the Ben Uri exhibition.
