Joseph Carl became well-known for his stage and set designs in Vienna, London, Holland and Israel. This brightly coloured and exuberant design is for a Commedia dell'arte performance based around the stock comic character of Pantalone, usually dressed in pantaloons and often wearing pointed shoes and a cape.
