In this painting, I contrast the vibrant colour used to depict the makeshift structures and dilapidated tents within the camp, with texture and collage to build a surface of mud and debris through which the father and daughter must navigate a path. Behind them is an ethereally lit opening through which they have passed into the depths of the camp. A warm evening light falls patchily on the ground allowing an injection of air and hope.
