In Crucifixion at the Border it is my intention to reference the suffering encountered by the refugees on their journey. I have created a distant borderland bristling with crosses, denoting pain and torment. It is through this landscape that the refugees have travelled. The urban area in which they find themselves does not provide a haven. It is stricken and war torn. A large house occupies the middle ground. It has windows redolent of human eyes which survey the surrounding area. It is a hostile presence. The refugees in the foreground adopt different poses. One is seated wearily on the left, recovering from the uncompleted journey. Another stands and takes stock and the third, desperate, runs on.
