I called this ‘Icon’ as I felt the combination of paint and collage had created a jewel like, compact piece reminiscent of a religious icon, which when contemplated, might provoke thought about the plight of the refugees. I placed the portrait of a Syrian girl in the bottom right hand corner and used a selection of metallic objects juxtaposed with paint to build a cage like structure suggestive of a prison cell.
