Naomi Alexander b. 1938
The early days of my relationship with Leo were tumultuous, to say the least. His mindset was conflicted and character an oxymoron, perhaps due to the dramatic circumstances of his upbringing and loss of everything he had known and loved. Whilst he was well settled amongst a continental group of friends, he was, regardless of anything, an immigrant, having to build up his identity from scratch in a country he did not know.
His treatment of me was defined by mood swings; extreme charm and wit conflicted with dropping me at random. He broke my heart, several times, but his enigmatic ways and romantic charisma always lured me back in.
After five years and several break-ups, Leo proposed. I was anxious and unsure, but said yes. I had such a lack of confidence, that I felt no one else would marry me.
On the morning of my wedding, my dear parents saw how nervous I was. They told me that I didn’t have to get married, but they had spent £2,500 on my wedding. I did not want them to waste their money, so refused to back out of the marriage.
