Rosen continues:

‘These fantasies resurrect the human form but outlaw reason as the linkage. They are far from realistic visual description and seek a vision of an irrational inventive magical world. This Romantic Revival reaches for sublimity through awe intrigue and majesty. The high point is Gothic in influence, whether in illuminated manuscripts cathedral architecture, stained glass windows, or costume, the vivid colours and decorated motifs, even the picture framing, are central to this series.’
