Ian Hamilton Finlay
1925, Nassau, Bahamas–2006, Edinburgh, Scotland
Immigrated to the UK in 1931
Finlay and Richard Demarco let language and nostalgia catch the tide here. Through an interplay of line, colour, image, and grammar, ‘rose’ wavers between noun (the rock-rose flower) and verb (to rise), while the boat evokes voyage but remains entangled in the continuous red line connecting rock, sky, boat, and clouds.
