A bronze version of this sculpture was featured in Zalmon Winer and Hazel Alexander's two-person exhibition entitled 'Jewish Images' in 1986 at the Ben Uri Art Gallery, 21 Dean Street. The piece is typical of the artist' naturalistic figurative style; most of her work relates to Jewish subject matter. The Polish tailor would have been a common figure in Jewish diaspora communities who settled in Britain, in both, Newcastle, where the artist was born and raised and in the East End of London, following mass Jewish immigration from Eastern Europe, c. 1881-1913.
