Judy Bermant's body of portraiture includes a series focused on members of the Anglo-Jewish community, particularly writers, including her husband, journalist Chaim Icyk Bermant (1929 –1998), Booker Prize-winning Welsh novelist Bernice Rubens (1923-2004) and Bernard Kops, born in the East End in 1926 to Dutch-Jewish parentage, who achieved recognition with his first play, The Hamlet of Stepney Green.
