John Allin's nostalgic East End Series looks back to the Spitalfields of his childhood and includes many famous landmarks, such as the soup kitchen for the Jewish Poor, Gardiners’ Corner – a local department store known as the 'Harrods' of the East End - and the iconic spire of Christ Church, Spitalfields, designed by architect Nicholas Hawksmoor. This bustling scene focuses on Spitalfields Market in Brushfield Street in its heyday as a fruit and veg market with the tower of Christ Church forming the focal point in the distance.
