Maurice Mancini Roith depicts himself reflected in a concave mirror, which also combines his interest in portraiture, interiors, still life and landscapes. The colourful palette picks out aspects of an interior rich in details from the patterned carpet and the artist's checked shirt to the red-haired female figure seated at a desk behind, her hair offset by the coloured flowers in the vase to her left, and the landscape visible through the two, long picture windows. The work can be viewed as a microcosm of the artist's interests as a painter and the setting can be identified as the artist's studio - the drawing room of Chichester House in the village of Ditchling, East Sussex, at the foot of the South Downs.
