The Old City, Jerusalem, is home to several sites of key religious importance including the Temple Mount and Western Wall for Jews, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians and the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims. Sochachewsky visited Israel in 1949 and both drew and painted a number of landscapes and cityscapes on his travels, including this atmospheric painting capturing the lively bustle of the Old City.
