Nonnenmacher executed several sculptures on the theme of motherhood including two terracottas shown at her joint exhibition with fellow émigrés Walter Trier and Elsa Fraenkel at Ben Uri Gallery in London in 1947. The mother-to-be is shown holding one hand against her stomach in a tender, protective gesture.
