This work was exhibited at Ziegler's exhibition of Recent Paintings at Ben Uri Gallery in 1955 under the title 'Portrait of a Young Woman', lent by Mrs. Robert Solomon, but the sitter has not been identified. It was picked out for mention in the accompanying catalogue text by the critic Charles Spencer, who referred to it as one of the three 'dominant' works in the exhibition, demonstrating Ziegler's 'strong self-assured draughtsmanship and the luminosity of his colour', noting also that it was 'impressive' because of its 'simplicity'.
