The artist has engaged with modernist techniques including representing the motion of the dance itself through the circular sweep of energy created by the men’s feet. Their hands are shown in emphatic gestures that are common to several types of Jewish dance.
This painting has a further composition, Man Seated by River with Boats, on the reverse. The artist of both works is currently unknown.Literature
