Camille Pissarro: The Immigrant and His Art

The inaugural online event of the Ben Uri Research Unit's new series titled and exploring The Immigrants and their Art.
There is no better place to start than with the ‘father’ of impressionism, Camille Pissarro who was born in the Danish colony of St Thomas in the Virgin islands in 1830. In 1842 he was sent to a boarding school in Paris. In 1847 he returned to St Thomas before migrating to Caracas, Venezuela in 1852. He left and returned to Paris in 1855. In 1870 the Franco-Prussian war forced Pissarro to move to London where the family resided until 1871 before returning to France.
Join David Stern on Tuesday evening 30 November for a live stream tour of the Stern Pissarro exhibition of Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) where we will discuss the various migrations and illustrate the impact and effect on his art. There is, of course, a huge library on the artist, but we hope to learn much ‘unknown’ about Camille Pissarro so please do sign up and join us.
