Sam Rabin
Collection Heritage Doncaster City of Doncaster Council
Donated by the Contemporary Art Society
The bust of Rabin’s good friend Barnett Freedman went missing in the same year it was caste amid the chaos after a major flood at Tate Gallery in 1928 and was separated from it’s identifying paperwork. It remained in storage until 1963 when it was sent to Doncaster Museum and an attempt was made to identify both artist and subject and it was decided the sitter was Lydia Lopokova (wife of Maynard Keynes) and the artist Stephen Tomlin. The bust was re-attributed by Sharon Taylor and Contemporary Art Society in 2024.
