A camouflage pattern runs through Departed Waves, where fragmented poetry and disrupted typography mirror a growing loss of direction in an increasingly militarised world. Phrases such as ‘the last river’ and ‘departed waves’ evoke mythological journeys and crossings, while the work’s long vertical form recalls a banner, scroll, or ceremonial textile carried along the way. Language appears here as both resilient and vulnerable: something carried forward, but always at risk of disintegration.
