In January 1990 my husband and I with two ours children age 11 and 13 arrived from Moscow to London. Gorbachev's Perestroika has lifted the iron curtain and eased for Soviet citizens to travel abroad. As an artist I was black listed in the far right nationalist organisation Pamiat. In their magazine "Nash Sovremennik" (Our Contemporary) they labelled me as enemy of the Russian culture. We were afraid to go back and ask for asylum in Britain. First we received indefinite live to remain and in several years time - British citizenship.
