Leo’s worsening treatment of Gitelle only resulted in drawing us closer together. We had always been a team, but now more than ever we leant on each other for support, both literally and metaphorically.
We would spend time alone, walking our dogs on the Heath and using the fresh air and peace to recuperate. Immersing ourselves in nature proved endlessly restorative, the change in scene and gentleness of surrounding animals denoting a quietness to our heightened emotions.
We found the most relief when we laughed together, finding joy in gossiping and making jokes on our walks. We got through many a terrible time in doing so.
