The Berlin Crisis of 1961 was provoked when the USSR demanded the withdrawal of Western troops from West Berlin. This led to the East Germans building the Berlin Wall, dividing the city in two. Here, people gathered at the Kranzler, a famous café on Kurfürstendamm in the Charlottenburg district, are oblivious to the political crisis that surrounds them.
