Sonia Delaunay 1885-1979
framed: 59 x 48 cm
In 1964, the year in which she had a solo exhibition at the Louvre, Delaunay also held her second solo show at the Galerie Bing, for which she designed this striking poster and a signed invitation card, both employing bold colour and equally bold graphic forms. Throughout her career, she used colour as an expressive language bringing about new ‘poetic’ combinations in abstract paintings and textile designs.
This work was presented to the Ben Uri Collection by the Polish-born art dealer and philanthropist, Robert Lewin (Boruch Lewin, 1918-2004) in 1993.
